Geriatrics is the branch of Medicine that focuses on the health care of the older person, usually over the age of 65.

A Geriatrician, in Australia, has completed at least six years of specialist training and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

You will need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or other specialists, prior to seeing our specialists. This enables services to be billed to Medicare and minimise costs to you.

Our specialists will write to your GP, informing them of the outcome of the consultation and the proposed management plan. Your ongoing care is managed by your GP, with review by the specialist, as required.

Medicare rebates do not cover all the costs involved in providing you a quality service. An out-of-pocket (co-payment) is also necessary.

We aim to keep the cost of consultation to a minimum for you. You will be charged a consultation fee, that is payable at the time of consultation. You will be eligible to claim a portion of the fee from Medicare.

Full upfront payment is required in advance, prior to Telehealth consultations and Home visits.

Our receptionists will inform you of the amount while booking your appointment.

We understand that situations can change and you may be unable to attend a scheduled appointment.

Your non-attendance denies the opportunity for another person to utilise our services.

If you do not attend, or cancel a scheduled appointment, with a notice of less than 2 business days, we will charge a cancellation fee.

In order to provide you the most appropriate advice, it is essential that our specialists are fully aware of your medical conditions.

For your appointments, please bring the following:
  • Details of your medical history
  • Your medications, or a list of your medications
  • Results of any recent tests
  • Any questions or concerns you may have

We are located on the ground floor at Lidia Perin Medical Centre, 12 Napier Close, Deakin, ACT. Free car parking for patients is available at the rear of the building. Access via ramp or lift is available. You may also be able to park on the street, in front of the building.

Referrals from your GP is usually valid for one year. If further appointments are required beyond 12 months of initial consultation, a new referral would be required.

A new referral enables your GP to update us of any significant changes to your health or advice received from other specialists and care providers.

This enables our specialists to review your current medical condition and provide you with the most appropriate health advice.
